The White Pine Press is an award-winning, student-run news organization at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City, Michigan. The White Pine Press publishes 10 print editions each school year, free copies of which are distributed throughout NMC's campus and greater Traverse City. Our student journalists also publish on our website and on Facebook and Instagram. The White Pine Press is funded by student fees and outside advertising.

Each year the White Pine Press wins numerous awards at the Associated Collegiate Press organization's national conference and the Michigan Community College Press Association conference. Our distinguished alumni include Garret Ellison (MLive) and Kathryn DePauw (Traverse City Record-Eagle)

In Spring 2026, our team won fifth place in the Best of Show category among two-year schools nationwide at the Associated Collegiate Press conference in San Francisco.

We also took home 18 different awards at the Michigan Community College Press Association (MCCPA) conference at Central Michigan University.

Notably, 10 different students won MCCPA awards in 12 different reporting and design categories, including first-place honors in the categories of: Feature Story, First Amendment Reporting, Humor Column and Front Page Design.

And this year's student editor-in-chief Minnie Bardenhagen was crowned student Journalist of the Year at the MCCPA awards banquet.
